1920’s Toys

Toys for boys in the 1920's were centered on the new technology like cars and planes - in the form of pedal cars or windup models, while toys for girls largely remained the traditional doll and dollhouse.

American toy manufacturers produced high quality toys while toys of a lower cost and quality were imported from overseas.

May toys were made from tin or cast iron including model cars, trucks and planes for boys and dolls house furniture for girls. In the late 1920's toys made from polystyrene plastic became available and this allowed a greater flexibility in manufacturing both in terms of the detail in toys and also the quantity. Mass production became possible driving down the price of toys.

Toys made from cast iron iron obviously have a greater durability factor than those made from tin or plastic so many have survived down to the present day. The less durable toys have a rarity factor that enhances their price in the marketplace.
